Gateway to the region is the lovely lakeside town of Pokhara, an idyllic place to relax after a long trek. The mountain lies to the north west of the Annapurna Sanctuary, a huge bowl of mountains three days walk from Pokhara. It was first climbed in 1950 by the French pair of Maurice Herzog and Louis Lachenal.
