North West Highlands     -     The Far North

The North West Highlands are considered by many to be one of the last wilderness regions of Europe. The area can be reached relatively quickly from the conurbations in the central belt, but the real adventure of visiting this vast area is to penetrate into the remote mountain areas accessible only by foot. In many cases this requires a short holiday.

For many lovers of the Scottish Highlands, the far north is regarded as somewhere special, and on account of its distance from the population areas of the central belt, is not often visited. Its main attraction is the complete emptiness one feels in passing through the districts of Coigach, Assynt and Sutherland, as the moorland, lochs and mountains are negotiated.
