Along with the neighbouring district of Fisherfield, Letterewe is the most remote area of Scotland, and boasts the country's most inaccessible group of Munros. There is a surprising amount of excellent rock climbing on these mountains, much of it comparable with any of the classic routes in Glencoe or Ben Nevis, although generally of an exploratory nature. Any visit to Letterewe is a major undertaking requiring some careful planning as the estates do not provide any bridges over the many rivers and burns that flow through the interior, and neither are any of the bothies maintained.
