The Central Highlands are defined as the mountains south of an imaginary Dalwhinne to Rannoch Moor line, and are the most frequented hills visited by walkers from the main areas of population in the central belt, most of the mountains being accessible as day trips.

Loch Lomond and the Trossachs is the most frequented and walked region of Scotland, with Ben Lomond being the Munro with the most ascents. It is less tha an hour's drive of Glasgow and a popular holiday destination for holiday makers attracted by its picturesque mountains and lochs. The region has recently been granted National Park status.
