The northern half of Nepal is dominated by the huge peaks of the Himalayan mountain chain, the highest mountains in the world. Indeed of the fourteen mountains over 8,000 metres, eight are in Nepal.

Ama Dablam (6856m/22,500ft), along with Machhapuchhare in the Annapurna region, is considered one of the most beautiful mountains in the world. It towers above the village of Pangboche in the Khumbu region, and is passed on route to Everest Base Camp.
